Saturday Night Discipline: Not Inviting Monday In Yet

July 4. Saturday night.

The weekend is not over yet.

On the calendar, there is still a clear grace period called “tomorrow, Sunday.”

Yet, as the night deepens past 10:30, an unpleasant shadow slowly begins to spread somewhere in the mind.

“Once tomorrow ends, Monday will come again.”

“The fun time is already half over.”

In this way, we preemptively bring the heavy pressure of the weekday that has not yet arrived into tonight, and soil the quietness right in front of us.

This is not simply a matter of mindset or weakness.

It is a state in which our brains — trained to constantly manage time efficiently — make it difficult to purely savor the “present.”

It is like a modern bug: calculating future anxiety in advance.

Therefore, the discipline to be carried out on this Saturday night is this:

Stop offering tonight’s quietness for the Monday that has not yet come.

There is no need to anxiously count how little time is left, nor to desperately cling to “something meaningful.”

It is enough to calmly, yet quietly, watch the sand in the hourglass fall.

There is no need to hurry yourself with anxiety, thinking “I have to switch soon.”

It is okay to remain in that half-hearted, somewhat empty state and sink deeply to the bottom of the bed.

Rather than being afraid and borrowing the future in advance, it is better to savor the remaining weekend time of tonight exactly as it is.

That is the quietest and most certain choice you can make tonight.

Akira’s One-Person Discipline affirms from the heart those of you who, on Saturday night, do not invite the shadow of Monday and simply exist there.
